5 in 5 on 5/5

  • by

I was inspired by Maggie’s post to see if I could find five blooms worthy of a photograph in our yard. Maggie had double that number, but we are way behind this year due to many cool (and frequently, rainy) days. But I grabbed my camera after dinner and did, indeed, find five worthy subjects. The Helleboros was past it’s prime as were most of the daffodils. Sadly, I don’t know the names of some of our ground covers which are quite lovely right now. The yard, in general, is in need of much loving attention.

Our Korean Pear Tree is one of my favorites. It looked as if it might not make it through the winter, but I was delighted to see it come back to life this spring.

I’m not sure of the name of this low growing flower that blooms for a long time along our stone wall.

We have lots of myrtle which I love when it’s blooming.

We have several primroses blooming along the edge of my perennial bed. This one is the prettiest.

And another pretty ground cover that I can’t name. I do know where it came from, however. Every fall we dump our hanging baskets into the shade garden, and frequently some of those flowers return and take up residence in the garden. This is one of them.

I’m happy to link up with Sandi at itchifingers for the May Five in Five—on the fifth, no less!

  1. All lovely, your garden is a few weeks ahead of mine. The blue of your Primrose is gorgeous.
The low growing flower (2nd photo) is creeping phlox, I have the same in my garden. Your 3rd photo looks like our periwinkle, which this year seems to have disappeared in my garden. Your last photo, I think it might be Lamium maculatum, Beacon Silver.

  2. I’m so glad that Maggie inspired you to take these photos Karen, your garden looks very colourful and I’m glad Mary-Lou was a flute to help name those you were unsure of. Thank you for taking part again this month and I am impressed and excited by so many achieving this on the 5th too!! I might need to look in my own garden now to see what plants I have in flower. I tell myself there isn’t many but I could surprise myself.

  3. Lol! Mary-Lou is not a flute, in case you are wondering if this is a term you have not heard of! Predictive typing can get me in trouble at times and cause amusement at others. I meant to say was able.

  4. Sandie I liked being referred to as a flute – it make me feel like of of the many parts of the joyful notes in blog connection. I am also glad auto correct did not take part in this description!

  5. These are lovely and definitely welcomed on our 12th day of grey and rain! Thanks for brightening our day. Enjoy the weekend…hopefully, the east coast will be bathed in sunlight . Fingers crossed!
    Cheers~

  6. I particularly like the photo of the myrtle. I did however have to look it up because I would have called it periwinkle. Both names are correct! I also like the colour of that primrose. I am so glad that I inspired you!
