Pairs of Fall Treats

  • by

This morning Tracy needed to purchase treats for a committee meeting tonight, so we drove out to Schutt’s Apple Farm for cider and donuts. They have the BEST cinnamon sugar fry cakes.

In case sweets aren’t your thing, Honey Crisp apples are my all time favorite. Matt introduced me to them several years ago when a professor of his at Cornell brought a different kind of apple to each field trip (they were foraging mushrooms, I think). He called me to tell me to get some to try. Most of the ones at the grocery store come from Washington state, but more and more New York apples growers have them now as well.

Knowing it would be unlikely that any donuts will come home after the meeting, we bought two of the cinnamon sugar donuts to eat on the way home. Apples later . . . .

I’m linking this up to Helena’s blog. Check out the other pairs, and Helena’s attractive new haircut!

  1. Oh both of your Pairs are SO tempting. But no I will hold off on the donut and take an apple thank you very much. There are so many varieties of apples these days, I find it hard to find the standard McIntosh one. OK, maybe I’ll split a donut with you.

  2. Yum. I do so love a ring donut, or what we call a “gravy ring” round here. I’d have to work very hard to pass on one and take an apple instead!

  3. Oh, I must NOT let Robbie see this post. The Honey Crisp cider has not arrived here yet! Last year Kroger carried some really good Honey Crisp cider, but so far this year all they have in is some plain stuff that taste like vinegar. Robbie’s been putting it on the grocery list every week so we’ll remember to check for it! LOL (Of course, he’s hoping we’ll get some in Ohio/Pennsylvania very soon.)

  4. Love the pairs photos, and I have to say that honey crisp apples are my FAVORITE! They are pricey compared to other apples, but so worth the price, in my opinion. I could really go for a donut right about now…

  5. What a great pair Karen, very creative too. We have a great many cider farms around here so inevitably over the years I can happily pass on a glass but find it impossible to pass a doughnut without making a purchase xx

  6. I’ve not seen Honey Crisp apples over here – but they sound the perfect combination of taste and texture. (I love Fuji ones when we can get them). So, given my intolerance to grains, it is OK if I help myself to an apple? Beautifully photographed too!

  7. Long time, no see! But I just did a big catch up. You look to be having a good life full of family and creativity. I do like the stamp set in your last batch of cards (the swipe ones) by the way.
    Keep enjoying fall!

  8. Oh those photos made me so homesick – I have a friend who was off to the US for work, and I asked her to ensure she had apple cider, doughnuts and applesauce for me. She emailed me to say that she told one set of hosts this and they took her to an orchard and she indulged and thanked me for the experience. :sigh:
Glad you got to splurge and take some home.

  9. Yummm, haven’t had a doughnut in awhile but just finished a jug of apple cider and am making apple crisp tonight. Tis the season!
