Mid-June already? I so love the warm weather that I wish summer didn’t fly by so quickly. One consolation: there’s a new color combination on the Color Hues blog, and Stef chose a delightful new combination. Another color combo I would never have thought of, but I enjoyed the challenge.
The first place I look for inspiration is in my box of NBUS (Never Before Used Stuff). This time I came across an Altenew mini-stamp, Tulip Motif, that I loved, and knew it would fit right in one of the new Penny Black Classy frames. I actually borrowed the frames from a friend when I created this card, but I now own the set.
I started by embossing the image in gold. Sadly, the gold embossing doesn’t show up well in either photo. Coloring it was a bit of a challenge because it’s so small. I used a combination of Tombow and Copic markers and there were a couple images that hit the circular file before I finished. The cobalt frame was die cut three times and stacked for some dimension. I used The Stamp Market’s Pierced Plaid Cover Plate to add some texture to the peach background.
I decided not to add a sentiment this time. There didn’t seem to be a natural place for one, and the inside sentiment will determine how the card is used–a birthday, a thank you, or a thinking of you–all work with this design.
As always, hop over to the Color Hues Challenge blog for some inspiration. It’s fun to see how many ways a color combination can inspire someone. The Design Team and our Guest Designer, Teresa S., aced this one!
This goes off to the NBUS blog since the Tulip Motif saw it’s first run today.
Karen, your tulip motif is beautiful and accented wonderfully with the classic cobalt frame and peach background. An eye-catching card in every way.

Your tulip image is beautiful Karen, and I can see the gold embossing, but I bet it really shines IRL! Love the framing with the Classy Frames die cuts…I was enabled to buy that set of dies too! Lovely, lovely card my friend! Hugs. :0)
I love when different companies have products that work together beautifully and the great feeling you get when that happens. You’ve accomplished that perfectly with this design, Karen! And what fantastic gold embossing and use of the colors! Thank you for joining NBUS again and for using this week’s I.D.E.A.S. Calendar and linking in the gallery to motivate others!📌 Hugs, Darnell
This is a sweet image, Karen! It looks a bit difficult to color but you mastered it beautifully! Love the drama of the cobalt frame against that pierced peach background!
Very pretty card. Nice die frames & I agree that the tulip motif works for all occasions.
Karen, you’ve showcased my color combo so perfectly with your exquisite card and I’m feeling rather shopping enabled after seeing the fabulous PB frame ;-), it was the perfect landing spot for that gorgeous tulip. And I could see that coloring all the tiny design elements could be very challenging, but you succeeded and created just a stunning card!
Love the frame for your tulip centerpiece Karen, I’ve been looking for something similar in my stash but nothing pops out so it’s another to add to my wish list! If you use Copics to colour this again can I suggest that you stamp with a pale ink, keep the stamp in a MISTI or such, colour and then stamp with the Gold EP. Copic pens tend to melt the embossing and then it sticks to the nib! You don’t need to be so careful to keep from the edges this way. The end result of your painstaking colouring was well worth it! 🙂
Karen, once again, you have the best backgrounds and frames. This is another CAS beauty my dear!
Wow, Karen this is so beautiful. I love the embossed background and that fabulous frame you used to back your very pretty Altenew tulip motif! So lovely as usual.
I love that you went bold with the colors. I can’t believe how well the frame and stamp go together. They look like a matched set! Very well done Karen!
What a wonderful card, Karen! I love that background die!
