The new Color Hues Challenge is live, and Carol has chosen another good one:White and Green.
They are perfect colors for St. Patrick’s Day, and since it’s also my husband’s birthday, I wanted to find a design would work for both. I ended up with a two-fer which is always a good thing.
The first card I created is the one on the right. I started with the white die cut from Papertrey Ink, Decorative Circles Coverplate, which has always been a favorite. I layered it on a card base of New Leaf (a very shamrock-like color) and inlayed the black diamonds.
I also added some black gems to the center of each diamond, but they’re almost impossible to see in the photo. The sentiment is from Altenew’s One-Go Birthday Greetings embossed in white on black cardstock.
Having die cut a second panel of the coverplate in black for the diamonds above, I realized I could reverse the colors and ended up with this card:
For the sentiment here, I used a new stamp and die set from Spellbinders (their February Stamp & Die Club pick). After stamping and die cutting the sentiment, I die cut three more to stack for some dimension. This card will go to my husband. The inside birthday sentiment also comes from this set.
The white version is already in an envelope to go to a good friend who’s birthday is next week.
Be sure to check out all the inspiration on the Color Hues Blog from the Design Team and our very talented Guest Designer, Nance.
I’m sending this off to Darnell’s NBUS March gallery. This is the second time recently when I’ve used a new stamp and die in a timely manner!
Both of these are absolutely gorgeous Karen! I love that coverplate that I never got when I could, it’s stunning. Happy early birthday to your hubby on his St. Patty’s Day birthday. As you can guess St. Patty’s Day is celebrated here as my husbands great great grandfather immigrated to Canada from Ireland!
Both cards will be well received, cheerful greetings.
Karen, I’m absolutely smitten with your cards. They’re stylish, trendy and all around fabulous! Thank you for making this combination shine with your creativity!

Two fantastic cards, Karen. You have the best array of cover-plates in your arsenal. I did remember that our husband’s birthdays are a day a part. Dave’s is the 16th. Happy Birthday to Tracy!
Who doesn’t love a twofer Karen. You have quite a selection of those fab plate dies and always come up with new ways to use them. So pleased I can’t just pick up these fab items, I need to think long and hard about ordering from over the pond, what with all the phaff of delivery and duty, it certainly helps with the pension! 🙂
What a perfect masculine card, Karen! I love the coverplate and how you got a twofer out of your play! Happy Birthday to your hubby!
Awesome twofer Karen, and thanks for reminding me I have this coverplate die and need to get it out and show it some love! The green and white color combo worked so perfectly for both cards and also worked wonderfully for masculine cards! Well done my friend! Hugs. :0)
Karen, I share your love of cover plate dies because they do most of the work (well, except for the inlay). These two look fabulous and the design is such that it isn’t gender specific, although I’d probably be more inclined to use it for a “guy” card. I hope your husband has a wonderful birthday!
Happy Birthday to your hubs! If it’s on St. Patty’s Day, I’ll bet he got teased about being a leprechaun! Or is that just my wicked sense of humor? All I know for sure is that you made him a really cool geometric manly birthday card! I love the added love you put into your design with the black inlaid diamonds and the gems! And good job getting a twofer, to boot! BTW, I just happened to come for a visit and to thank you for your wonderful comment on my post 🥰 and I see that you meant to link this to NBUS, so thank you for inspiring everyone there when you get a chance. Hugs, Darnell
Two-fers are always fabulous. How fun it must be to have your birthday on St. Patty’s Day! Green beer all around! Wonderful set of cards but I’m wondering why in the world I don’t own this cover plate. LOL!
Very nicely conceived and executed! I need to do more with cover plates!
