We have a variety of bird feeders in our front yard, and enjoy watching the birds from our kitchen table. This week we’ve had three pleasant surprises. The first was the return of the yellow finches. I love the little one on the top of the crook.
And then a bigger surprise: the rose-breasted grosbeak. We see them only occasionally, and often just for a day or two on their way north, but this year they’ve been here for a week already. Yesterday I counted 6 males and 4 females in the yard at once! We’ve never seen that many before.
But the biggest surprise was this morning when, for the first time ever, we had a visit from some Baltimore Orioles. There were four of them and they returned multiple times today. I hope they’ll stay awhile like the grosbeaks.
I’m joining in with Mary-Lou for the Take Three Thursday meme–just getting this posted at the end of the day!
And one final photo of three of the Baltimore Orioles in the tree across the street. They are such a brilliant orange you can see them from a distance. Watching both the orioles and the grosbeaks fly about is just beautiful. They are even more gorgeous in flight.
WOW – great photos! Such lovely views with these beautiful birds – I’d just want to sit & stare out the window all day! 🙂
I can really appreciate how much you enjoy these little visitors. I too enjoy looking out of the window to see who’s out and about. But I’ve never seen any of these. Great pics of some very colourful feathered friends!
Thanks for joining in Karen. Great photos of such beautiful visitors. We also get all three of these types & like your garden our garden usually only gets 1-2 visits for Rose Breasted beauty & the Oriole. But to get 4 male Orioles all at once! I spent a few dollars getting oranges sliced & ready for the Orioles as they like those, especially after the their flight. We have a neighbour that gets the Orioles all season & by the dozens & he does nothing special for them … I’m jealous.
Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Birthday in advance, Karen! Jim and I love your bird photos! He has never seen the B. Oriole in the US but in Belize and other central American countries. He’s jealous. The yellow finches are probably goldfinches or lesser goldfinches. Love God’s creations and colors.
You have such wonderfully colourful birds. It’s always great when you have unexpected visitors to the feeders.
Tell me how you determined what kind of feeders/food to put out and where/when to attract such beautiful birds? We’ve been trying for a few years to attract the hummingbirds with no luck. We do manage to attract a lot of squirrels…
