Another Butterfly

  • by

I’m back with another butterfly card for the Just Us Girls Challenge.

JustUsGirls

This is a pretty atypical card for me, and sadly, one that doesn’t photograph particularly well. It’s much prettier IRL than in the photographs. I don’t often use patterned paper, and rarely use patterned paper as a starting point for a design as I did here. Having recently reorganized and purged my 6X6 paper pads, they are now much more visible. I spotted this geometric paper with gold accents from an older Simon Says Card Kit, and decided to use it with a NBUS cover plate by Reverse Confetti, the Center Circle die.

After die cutting the cover plate, I tried a variety of colored cardstock, and interestingly, this Smoky Shadow by PTI looked the best. The gorgeous butterfly die is an oldie from PTI from the Life is Beautiful set. I die cut the solid image in a brilliant gold paper and overlaid the smoky shadow butterfly after applying a good coat of clear glitter with SpectrumNoir pen.

The sentiment, from Altenew’s Sentiment Strips 2, was gold embossed on a strip of matching cardstock. The gold embossing and the gold paper for the butterfly match the gold triangles in the patterned paper perfectly. Just good luck!

And my first entry for the September NBUS Challenge.

  1. WOW! Your patterned paper is lovely and made all the more eye-catching paired with the circle die (how cool is that!) and Smoky Shadow cardstock. A perfect background for your shimmery butterfly! Gorgeous card in every way!! Another gem in the JUGS gallery; thank you for playing along!

  2. My, that’s an eye-catching card! I love that it’s so unexpected: no pastel ‘nature’ colours, none of the ethereal softness we tend to associate with butterflies … This one is bold and strong, and all the better for it. Genius to do a smoke-y butterfly and make the background the vibrant bit. Super!

  3. I love how this turned out, Karen! I still have that patterned paper in my stash. It must feel good to use it up and the bold butterfly makes a great statement. Beautiful card!

  4. Yes, this isn’t your usual card but what a stunner! That butterfly has always been a favorite and your combination of colors is a great balance to the fun paper die cut. Excellent!

  5. Stunning card, Karen, and wonderfully schparkly! I can tell how tickled you are to have done the reorg so you now have a handle on those patterned papers! They do get out of hand and now you can easily find paper that fits a design perfectly, like you did here! Thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS! Keep safe! Hugs, Darnell
