CAS(e) This Sketch: Happy Birthday

  • by

At the end of last week, I was trying to get all the November birthday and anniversary cards ready to mail. I realized I needed a birthday card for my nephew in Portland. I keep a document with all the current challenge images on it and found the new CAS(e) This Sketch inspiration. It seemed perfect for a “guy card.” I stuck right to the sketch this time.

Here’s my take:

Back to one of my favorite color schemes: black, red, and white—and the Simon Says woodgrain paper. The Spellbinder’s “Label Two” die is a pretty close replica of the label on the sketch, and I used one of the tag images from Papertrey’s “2012 Birthday Tags” set.

I embellished the inside of this one as well:

Now all the November cards are in their envelopes waiting for the appropriate date to go in the mail.

Card Recipe:
Cardstock: Woodgrain (Simon Says), True Black, Pure Poppy (PTI)
Washi Tape: My Mind’s Eye
Dies: Labels Two (Spellbinders) and two circle punches
Stamps: 2012 Birthday Tags (PTI)
Stars: Jeni Bowlin

  1. Hi Karen! It’s been a while (13 posts and 28 days) since I’ve been around to catch up. I loved your photo cards from Turkey – the blue and white together are stunning! Plus, there’s a windmill card. Love it! Your storytelling Sunday posts about your E.B. White first editions is also fantastic. You and Tracy look great in the Key West photos, and I love the Everglades wildlife. And so happy to see you get inky with that tag. Thanks for sticking with me while I’ve been away.

  2. Well, you stuck to the sketch, Karen, but with such panache and lots of clever additional details! That wood textured paper is lovely, along with your patterned strip where theirs was plain. A very handsome card!

  3. This is a great card and there’s that awesome wood grain cardstock again! I went out to Etc on my lunch hour today (basic cardstock purchase and some fabric for a baby quilt) and I looked for the embossed cardstock. The only thing they had today was the dotted swiss. Rats. ;o)
