Color Hues #107

  • by

It’s April Fool’s Day. It was one of my least favorite days as a teacher of 5th graders who delighted in trying to do you in and usually succeeded at some mischief. Today, however, April 1st means a new Color Hues Challenge, and it’s a good one. Jules chose Orange (one of my faves) and Teal. It’s a great combination, and not one I’ve used very often.

I pulled out an old favorite hot foil plate from Pinkfresh Studio, Geo Blocks and it’s accompanying stencil. I don’t think I’ve ever used all three stencils because I love the way it looks with some white space.

This time I decided to use a larger hot foiled sentiment from Waffle Flower, Hey, There.  I liked it placed on the diagonal which is not something I often do.

This gives you a better look at the shiny gold foil. It took me awhile to figure out where I wanted to add some gold pearls, but I’m happy with the final decision.

As always, you’ll find lots of inspiration on the Color Hues blog by our wonderful Guest Designer, Renate, as well as the fabulous Design Team! I hope you’ll come join us!

My schedule has been crazy recently, and although I’ve been crafting, there hasn’t been much that could be shared just yet. I don’t usually let two weeks go by without blogging, but I hope to remedy that this week. The Women’s NCAA March Madness schedule hasn’t helped much. I’m a huge fan of women’s college basketball and watch a lot more television during the tournament. The only consolation to the increased TV time, is that while I watched the games, I finished two big organizing and cleaning out projects in my craft room that have been on the to-do list for far too long.

  1. Karen, these colors are so dynamic with the gold foiling! What a fabulous card – it really looked ‘pieced’ in your photo!
I look forward to all those cards you’ve been making!
    =]

  2. Karen well done combining a task with the pleasure of the Basketball games. Your card knocks it out of the court with the combo challenge. The teal with the orange definitely softens the tones. That gold foiling adds just the perfect flare touch.

  3. Another fabulous background and card, Karen. You are yet again the queen of stenciled geometric backgrounds. Awesome card in these shades of orange and teal. Take care!

  4. What a great design, Karen! I love the way you’ve colored the blocks and that’s a great sentiment. I love it on the diagonal.

  5. These colors look fabulous with the geometric blocks Karen and the gold takes it up another level too! Love the foiled sentiment on an angle too! You definitely made the challenge colors SHINE with this card my friend…love it!! Hugs. :0)

  6. Geometric stencils are a great way to incorporate the colours Karen, this as you say, looks great with the white area too. They are so versatile, change the colours and you have a totally different look. 🙂

  7. So much to comment on here….first off, I can only imagine the pranks fifth graders would pull. I subbed for many years and I must say, I gave up on that age. Too much like middle schoolers. Kudos to you!!! And second, I wish I could get the girls games here. I don’t have cable or Hulu any longer. I’ve managed to watch UF men’s (where both my daughter and new SIL went) but I’d love to see the SC girls (where they are probably headed). Ok…now to the card. LOL! I’m always amazed at these geometrics. They remind me of those puzzles where you see two things. And make me a bit dizzy if I’m being honest. Beautifully done with the foiling!!!

  8. Perfection with the Geo blocks, Karen! I agree that leaving white space adds ‘oomph’ to the overall impact. Wonderful inspiration.
I taught high school English for years and I well know students’ April Fools pranks!
    hugs~carol

  9. Karen the Geo Blocks are a series I have loved since released but I still have not gotten. So I guess still on my wish list. Your card is stunning and the foilplate makes it extra special! The colours are fabulous, you angled design with the WF foil sentiment is so lovely. As a former teacher myself April fools day was not my favourite either, especially with high school kids. My daughter teaches grade 2/3 and she showed her class a video about marshmallow farming–lol, it was quite a funny hit!

  10. Karen, you’ve used one of my favorites for creating masculine cards (obviously it is good for anyone). It looks fabulous in these colors and with the sentiment at a diagonal. I had a large pile of them foiled but uncolored stashed away and last fall stenciled a number of them to use for birthdays in the ensuing months. I wasn’t able to watch much of the women’s college basketball tournament this year, but good for you to doing double duty while watching!
