Color Hues #109

  • by

It’s May Day. When I first went to school we lived in Hays, Kansas. I remember May Day being a big deal. We made little baskets filled with treats, left them on our friends’ front porch, rang the bell, and ran away. I can remember dancing around a May pole at school. Such celebratory events never happened when we lived in Ohio, and I’ve never seen much of it in New York. Now the first of May represents the likelihood that Spring will come and stay, although there has been snow in May on occasion. It’s also the first Color Hues Challenge of the month, and Marcia has chose two springy and happy colors:

Ch #109-Blue and Yellow.001

I reached for one of my new Pinkfresh purchases (I was enabled by a generous gift certificate for Christmas) the Radiating Hearts and Stars stencil and die set. I knew it would be great for two color challenges, and it’s a very versatile set–good for almost any age. This time I chose the stars.

CH109

I ran the card front through my die cutting machine with Reverse Confetti’s Stitched Rays cover die, and then layered two of the stenciled stars at the meeting point of the rays. I used three Simon Says inks for the stenciling: Marine, Cadette, and Sunshine.

The sentiment was embossed in gold with Altenew’s Sentiment Strips.  I added five sparkly gold stars as an embellishment.

I hope you’ll join us at The Color Hues Gallery during the next two weeks, but first check out the amazing inspiration from our Guest Designer, and the Design Team. I’ll be away for a good portion of the challenge, but will be checking in as soon as I get home! Have fun!

  1. How pretty! And cheerful. Suitable for many things and people (including Ukrainian friends?) I love the stitched ray effect.
Hope you are having a wonderful time away. If the weather on the mainland is anything like here, you will have stayed dry at the very least!

  2. What a bright and awesome card Karen…definitely looks like sunshine and spring to me!! And what versatile set to use for birthdays, graduations, and any number of celebratory events…LOVE it! Thanks for making my color choices shine my friend and happy and safe travels!! Hugs. :0)

  3. Such a pretty, versatile star. Fabulous in our challenge colours and I know it will be just as eye-catching no matter what pairing you choose. Love this!
    hugs~carol

  4. I LOVE this star, Karen! And the radiating rays make a perfect place for it! This works so well for any age, masculine or feminine card! I can see it working well for Christmas too. The shades of yellow and blue you used are bright and happy! A delightful card, my friend!

  5. A really striking, graphic take on the colours Karen, looks fab. We have a May Day holiday here in the UK, usually the 1st Monday in May and this year it looks like it will be sunny for a change, just like your card. I remember a maypole in the gym store at school but we never danced around it, something from a bygone age. 🙂

  6. I LOVE this Karen!!! The choice of the yellow background was perfect. I’d be making this design in all of the two color combos as it’s wonderful for any age and gender.

  7. Karen, there is so much to enjoy about this card. I absolutely love this background sunburst over plate I think I might need to have! Beautiful and so graphic, love , love, love!

  8. WOW–just perfect, Karen! Love the cover plate and wonderfully stenciled stars! I wish I had a stamp set with that sentiment for BD cards! I know you’re having a ball on your adventure!

  9. Love the inspiration. In fact after I won a $50 GC from PFS I ordered the star/heart stencil plus a few other things thinking that I could easily cut out the stars and hearts myself if my assorted dies didn’t fit. The order arrived on Friday and my dies didn’t fit. While the stars aren’t difficult to fussy cut, the hearts are. I think the dies will be on my next order.
