It’s mid-October already and Hannelie has gifted us with a new color combination for the Color Hues Challenge:
When I sat down to create a card for this challenge, a new leaf die from Pinkfresh Studio was sitting on my desk. The Fall Leaf felt like a good place to start. I have to admit that the rest of the elements took a lot longer to create than I anticipated, but when they all came together, I was quite happy with the card. I tried some ink smooshing for the first time in a long time, adding three different yellows to the mix, and letting the watercolor paper dry between the layers.
From the start, I wanted to incorporate The Greetery’s Woven Cane Background. I ended up smooshing a piece of Classic Kraft in a mixture of Classic Kraft and Honey Nut inks. Being standard cardstock, it didn’t take as well to the well ink smooshing, but worked out fine when die cut with the Woven Cane Bakcground and used behind a Pierced Oval Frame from Papertrey Ink cut with Classic Kraft.
I tied the leaves together with a piece of gold metallic thread from Altenew and added a tiny gold pearl to the bow.
The sentiment is gold foiled from The Stamp Market’s Foiled Card Phrases.

I’m adding my card to the mix at the Four Seasons Challenge where the challenge is Anything Goes for Fall. The challenge always posts an Inspiration Board to get you started, but it’s not required that you take anything specific from it. Other than two of the colors in the bottom right photo my inspiration really came from the color challenge and the fall leaf die on my desk!
I love the smooshing technique and don’t do it often enough. Your various tones of yellow make for gorgeous leaves, Karen! The Woven cane background adds so much texture and warmth! Wonderful card and use of the colors!
So many wonderful textures to this card. The woven cane background really adds to the elements. I’ve never tried a smooshing ink technique.
Your smooshing technique worked brilliantly and I love the woven cane background, a fab autumnal card. 🙂
Oh Karen, this is just BEAUTIFUL! Love that leaf die and you’ve used it perfectly! Well done! Thanks so much for joining in the fun at our Four Seasons Challenge! Good Luck and we hope you’ll come back again soon.

Wow. Your ink smooshing created the most perfect fall tones to your leaves. (Note to self.) This is outstanding Karen.
What a brilliant combination of dies Karen! Love that leaf die against the cane and the smooshing has given everything lots of depth. The twine is the perfect embellishment too. Vicky x
I love everything about this card, Karen! I enjoyed reading your thought process as well. The frames and die cuts work fabulously with your smooshed leaves. Beautiful!
Karen the ink smooshed leaves are absolutely gorgeous, I can’t stop looking! Beautiful card my friend, hope you are having a safe trip!
What a beautiful design, Karen! I love every detail of texture you used, with the woven background and the color variations from “smooshing” your yellows. Gorgeous!
Your card is absolutely gorgeous with the pretty smooshed leaves paired with kraft and brown. Love this!
