Color Hues #86

  • by

Julie has a wonderful Spring color combination for our next Color Hues Challenge:

CH #86 Lilac and Lime.001

We live just two blocks from Rochester’s Highland Park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, and planted with over 700 varieties of lilacs. The annual Lilac Festival begins on May 10th and lasts until May 19th, so this combination was very timely. The Greetery just released fabulous lilac dies, but I don’t own them, so I chose a lovely floral stencil instead. The Curved Floral Banner was part of a Gina K Kit a year or so ago. When I had finished stenciling it, I die cut it with the accompanying die. It also comes with a detailed die cut that creates an border around the whole image, but I decided I much preferred the soft, clean look of just the stencil.

I’ve always known purples were hard to photograph, and this card certainly gave me a run for the money. I spent way more time trying to get accurate colors in the photos than I did making the card. They’re still not perfect. If you have a sheet of Concord & 9th’s Lilac paper, you’ll get the real picture!

The scalloped oval is from a pack from Dick Blick’s, and I stamped it with a sentiment from the Gina K’s Sweet Sentiments with Pinkfresh Studio’s “Soft Lilac” ink. I added a few beautiful lilac gems to the oval as the finishing touch.

  1. I don’t know about you struggling to get a good photo Karen, but this card looks fab. Love the lilac base card, it really makes the spray of stencilled flowers pop. 🙂

  2. A beautiful card, Karen! I think your photos turned out great but I know first hand that many times my photos don’t quite capture how my card looks (especially blue-greens). The arching floral spray works so well with the scallop oval and the sentiment font seems to be perfect with the entire design. Love this!

  3. Oh, I do have C & 9th Lilac paper but I must say your photos look great! It’s a beautiful shade and your stencilled flowers are so soft and delicate. The scalloped frame is feminine and so so pretty! I’m with Greta, I love the lilac sentiment on this!

  4. Absolutely beautiful card Karen! I love the soft lilac hues you used…sooooo pretty! And your photos look great to me! The lilac festival sounds so fun and I bet the smell is divine!! My lilac bush is blooming right now and is so pretty this year! Last year we had a hard frost just as the lilacs were starting to bud and it killed all the flowers…I was so sad!! We’re definitely making up for it this year and have had beautiful weather for the past two weeks and everything is blooming…I’m loving it!! Hugs. :0)

  5. This is stunning, Karen. I love the coloured card base, your beautiful flowers edging the oval and coloured sentiment. Great design x

  6. Apologies for being late to the commenting party; I need someone to organize me!
How wonderful to have a Lilac Festival so close to you; I love lilacs! I haven’t seen any blooming in our area yet, but I’m sure they will soon, especially after the rain we had last night. Time for things to green up and bloom.
Your floral sprig is ever so pretty, especially paired with the lilac sentiment. Love it.
    hugs~carol
