Another month has flown by, and we’re at the top of August already: time for a new Color Hues Challenge. Stef has chosen:
Last month, Jill Foster for Penny Black presented ten videos in a series call “Permission to Play.” Each video featured a different layout design, and I chose the layout from the second video.
You’ll quickly realize I made one major change, using a circle frame rather than an oval. Much to my surprise, I didn’t have any decorative oval frames, and no circle ones that I was happy with either. I ended up creating my own using one design from Pinkfresh Studio’s Braided Circles and using one of the Ellen Hutson Essential Circles.
I’ve always love Penny Black’s hedgie images, but only own one set. This cute critter rushing off with his package is from the Critter Delight set, and is one I’ve owned for a long time. Jill Foster used watercolors for all the images in her 10 video series, but I chose Copic markers for this guy. After adding some ink blending to the background circle, I added the frame with dimensional tape.
The sentiment from The Greetery’s Inflated Sentiments was curved to fit inside the frame (and doesn’t look as close to the frame IRL.) I added a small butterfly (an embellishment used by Jill on several of her cards.) I didn’t have a small die so fussy cut this one from an older Papertrey Ink set, Life is Beautiful.
There’s lots to see at the Color Hues Blog so hop over and take a look at the creative designs by the Design Team.
That is a cute hedgehog dashing to wish someone a happy birthday! (Let’s hope there are no balloons at the party!)
Such an ADORABLE card Karen! I love PB critters and this little hedgie is no exception! Love the little circle frame you put him in too, and your embossed pink background is the perfect backdrop! Sweet, SWEET card my friend!! Hugs. :0)
Sweet card Karen!! LOVE that adorable hedgie with his polka-dot present which fits perfectly in your pretty circle frame. LOVE the pink embossed background. xx
Karen, that hedgie is so cute, racing to deliver his package! Your use of Jill’s sketch works perfectly, along with your cleverly adapted decorative circle die. Love the little butterfly and the wonderful embossed background too! Such a sweet card!
Well isn’t that hedgehog the cutest little deliverer of sweet messages & treats. I like the embossing of the card’s background.
Necessity is the mother of invention Karen and your ‘homemade’ frame works a treat. Love the EF you’ve used too, a great take on that sketch. PB features heavily in the DT output this time! 😉
I am in love with this card! Seriously. I am going to have to go back and check out those videos. Love the texture and design so much.
This is darling, Karen! I love the tiny hedgehog and that great embossed background too! The card is just perfect from top to bottom! Have a great weekend!
what a wonderful design – love that background and the cute hedgie running to deliver the package to the birthday person!
Everything about your card makes me smile, especially the adorable hedgie. Lily, my mini schnauzer, has a hedgie stuffie; her absolute favourite toy she packs around all day long. Fabulous way to showcase the challenge colours.

What a delight this hedgie card is, Karen! It will definitely make someone’s birthday! I really love how you did your composition (great job with the circle and the roundy sediment!) and that textured shade of pink! Hugs, Darnell
How delightful to see that so many of us have been inspired by Jill’s Out to Play series, and your card is beautiful. So fun to see badminton!
Oh my goodness Karen you did a great job on this card and the hedgehog is so fun frolicking over the textured pink! Your card always make me smile!
Wow–you used the sketch perfectly, Karen! Absolutely love this sweet card!
