I knew September would show up long before I was ready to say goodbye to summer. I remember Tracy once saying that now that we’re retired “it’s endless summer.” Sadly, not. I will miss the long hours of sunshine, the pretty flowers in my yard and garden, and the warm weather. It will still be nice for a few more weeks, but once Labor Day arrives, summer seems to end for me.
Knowing fall is on its way, Carol has a wonderful color challenge for us at the Color Hues Challenge blog:
For this challenge, especially, remember that this is a color hues challenge so there’s always room for a variety of hues. I chose two hues of cardstock for rust and two hues of green. I also included some dark brown and white–neutrals are always welcome. I immediately thought of two die sets in my NBUS box: Spellbinders’ The Botanical Solarium and Altenew’s Through the Window.
After die cutting all the elements, I added a bit of ink blending to the greenery and backed the window with a piece of cloud vellum. When I started to consider what I could use I remembered some of this, but I had no idea if there was any left. I had plenty for the window, and enough for several more when I use this die again.
I had several contenders for a rust card base but chose Papertrey Ink’s Terra Cotta Tile. The rust cardstock for the pots is Gina K’s Rusty. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things, Sunflower Sweetheart. The only embellishments were the pearls for the flower centers and one for the butterfly. I had a few die cuts left over, and decided to use a few of them on the inside:
The sentiment here is from My Favorite Things Sweet Birthday Wishes. I’ll bet there are a few stamps or die in your collection that would make for a great entry to our Rust and Green gallery. Be sure to check on the Color Hues Blog for more inspiration, and come join us!
As noted above, this card definitely benefited from my NBUS box, so it will be an early entry to Darnell’s September NBUS challenge. I’m also adding it to the gallery at Addicted to Stamps and More: Die Cuts and Stencils.
Karen, your window setting, complete with a view outside, is the perfect stage for your oh-so-pretty plants in their terracotta pots. Your combination of different hues of rust and green is eye-catching; you’ve really made these colours shine!

Love the idea of cloud vellum, looks fab behind the window with the potted plants looking fab too. 🙂
Very cute card. I like the window die cut.
Don’t be too sad about Summer leaving us Karen…September and October can still be pretty warm here in the mitten state and the colors absolutely beautiful…just like in your card! I too love the cloud vellum you used behind your window…it’s perfect and I love the look of your potted plants on the window sill! Lovely, lovely card my friend!! Hugs. :0)
Karen, I was tickled to see the direction you took with your card as plants and pots was my second idea. Of course with that being said, I know my card would not have turned out this well. I love the deep base color and the vellum in the windows. Wonderful job my dear!
Oh this is so cute!
Thank you for joining us at Addicted to Stamps and More challenge.
Happy crafting!

I just love this, Karen! Your color choices and the plant theme are wonderful! The window design takes it all up a notch. So many details, so beautifully done!
Totally adorable card Karen. LOVE the deep rust card base and those sweet little pots on your window sill. 🙂 xx
Karen, this is such a sweet little scene you’ve created! Those pots are darling, as are the sentiments inside and out. And cloud vellum is new to me and it looks fantastic through the window panes. Someone is going to love receiving this card for their birthday!
What lovely pots in your window box – a beautiful combination of dies here – perfect for the colors!
It is sad to see summer come to an end, but wow, Karen, you really gave fall her due with your clay pots filled with autumn on the window sill! Your details are always flawlessly put together and make me linger to enjoy them all – outside and inside! Plus, I’m a big fan of rust, copper, and bronze so you hit my sweet spot with these hues. Thank you for inspiring everyone to use their NBUS! Sorry to be visiting so late! Hugs, Darnell
