Five in Five: September

  • by

It’s very warm and muggy here today. The effects of Irma seem to be much warmer weather and a higher level of humidity. A small price to pay given the destruction she reeked on Florida and some of the southern states. Until yesterday it has been, however, much cooler than normal, dropping into the 40’s at night. I’m beginning to see leaves turning color and signs that fall is upon us. The flowers in my garden and on the patio are still going strong. Usually by now I would have replaced many of the summer planters with mums, but not this year.

For this month’s, Five in Five, I decided to capture some of those gorgeous blooms. I’ll be missing them soon enough.

Actually the focus is on our new glass hummingbird which hangs with the basket of impatiens which are still going strong. We can see this from our kitchen window and are enjoying the new addition.

The hydrangeas in our front yard were planted last fall, so this is their first blooming season. These were a deep purple just a few weeks ago. This beautiful transformation was certainly unexpected.

We’re even getting new buds and blooms in the patio planters.

One reason I love geraniums is their long-lasting nature. They just keep blooming and blooming, both in our pots and in our patio bed.

The ornamental pepper plant adds a huge pop of color to the patio.

  1. What a beautiful hummingbird – and your garden looks glorious still. It is always a joy to see – you must have very green fingers. Thank you for taking part this month.

  2. Your garden flowers are still in full swing – along with those lovely temperatures – and your photos really capture the detail. Hydrangeas do the most unexpected things depending on the soil, my Mum (who loved them too) used to tell me. She was of the school of thought that if there is lime/alkalinity in the soil. they’ll go pink-y and if you have peaty/acid soil you’ll get blues. Your humming bird is a sweet addition :).

  3. What a great and pretty five. Finally those humid and warm summer days arrived, too bad it’s in the wane of summer. I also think geraniums are such reliable flowers and so many shades to be found. Very pretty glass hummer, I keep wondering, for my garden, where are all the live ones. They arrived but never stuck around, I miss them.

  4. What a lovely, bright 5 in 5! I too have lots of busy lizzies still going strong – great bonus for the time of year. The humming bird is lovely. (By-the-by, I’m still waiting for summer!)

  5. Oh how very lovely! The hummingbird is so beautiful and delicate. Our azalea bush is in full bloom…3rd time so far in 2017! And the other bushes and trees are changing.
Tad warmer today…yeah, Irma’s after effects. Terrible storms. I feel so for the people in the Carribean, especially Babauta (sp)…entire population evacuated to Antiqua…who knows if they’ll ever return to their island.
    Cheers~

  6. Beautiful photos as usual. I love your hummingbird. Ornamental peppers are one of my favorite fall plants…perfect color and fun for Halloween! Happy weekend.
