White

  • by

I’m not sure why today’s challenge from Her Space:  My Space seems particularly daunting. I have a whole set of white china, but didn’t want to copy Anita’s beautiful photo of her cup. Took me all day and photos of several other objects before I settled on the while lilies. They seem to fit Anita’s defintion:  The palest colour and sign of purity.

Her Space:  My Space
challenge–FRIEND–A person you know particularly well. I don’t think it’s cheating to post a photo of your husband as your friend because he certainly is my very best friend, and has been for years.

Wet

  • by

Today’s challenge at Her Space:  My Space is wet:  Covered or saturated with water. This photo is from last month and the story behind it is here. If you look just above the word “WET,” you’ll see the spray of water as we tried to get the soap off the poor woodchuck before releasing him into the wild. The white stuff on the ground is the soap suds.

Ramblings

We had a great weekend. Friday we took Matt to Ithaca where he registered at Cornell (in 10 minutes!) and got pretty well settled in his apartment. He is one happy man–loves Cornell (“Everyone is so nice and so helpful,) and loves his apartment in the country (about 7 miles from campus.) Everything went better than planned and we had a beautiful day to do all the moving.

When we left Ithaca it was sunny and 85°. By the time we met up with Bob and Cathy at Sampson State Park on Seneca Lake, it was raining and getting much cooler. We sat in the van for a little over an hour and the rain finally stopped. Later the wind picked up and it got pretty cool, but we had a great fire and a great time. Saturday we spent most of the afternoon touring several of the wineries on Seneca Lake. Bought some great new wines and a few unusual ones.  Also bought the first ice wine I’ve ever liked. (It is really good!) Years ago when our kids were younger we camped and hiked–often one of the 40 high peaks in the Adirondacks. Now it’s camping and wine tasting.

Finally here is today’s challenge from Her Space:  My Space. I didn’t have time to catch up for the days I missed, but here is today’s. Plant:  A green living organism.

Chop, chop

  • by

Today’s challenge from Her Space:  My Space is chop. Years ago my friend, Maddy, taught me how to cut an onion so it’s easy to get pretty uniform pieces. It was amazing to me, and I often think of her when I’m chopping away. My mother died while I was in college so I really never learned much about cooking from here although I inherited and use many of her recipes. So here’s a little chop:

Window

Today’s challenge  from Her Space:  My Space is window:  An opening in the wall, filled with glass.

I took a couple shots today, but decided this one from a rainy day earlier this month was more interesting. We have yellow finches on our bird feeder all day long. I love looking out during meals at our kitchen table and seeing their bright colors.

Pasta

  • by

Today’s challenge from Her Space: My Space is pasta. Ahh, a favorite, and one we are trying to avoid in our effort to fight the inevitable weight gain that comes with getting older! My lovely pasta container sits on our counter. I purchased it many years ago in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. There’s a “matching”  olive oil pitcher as well.

Dog Sitting

  • by

We’re dog sitting for Sarah and Adam, and we’re all loving it! We took a lot of pictures of Sadie chasing the tennis ball this afternoon. There will be more to share after I have time to edit them. This is for Sarah & Adam should they wonder if she is having a good time. (She’s so pooped, she’s been asleep in her crate ever since her after-dinner walk through the park!)

Drive

  • by

Today’s challenge at Her Space: My Space is drive–I do so much of it. This photo seems a little like a cheat since I’m not in it driving, but this photo of my Subaru Forester was taken for a BPS class called “Daily Essentials.” I still don’t have the mini-album put together but I did take all the photos. I love my Subaru and it’s giant sunroof. Makes all the gray and snowy days in Rochester seem a little less bleak. There’s rarely a day I don’t DRIVE my Forester.

Thread

Her Space:  My Space:  Thread–A long strand of fibres.

Before I started rubber stamping (12 years ago) and scrapbooking (5 years ago) and photography (2 years ago), I used to be a seamstress. I made lots of my children’s clothes, lots of mine, and once even made a three-piece suit for my husband in a tailoring course. Now my sewing machine is used more for stitching on paper crafts and occasionally for an alteration or repair. I still have lots of thread, though.

Down

  • by

Down is the Her Space:  My Space challenge. It’s a busy day here, so I’m posting earlier than usual. Sarah and Adam are here for the night. They’ve dropped off Sadie (their friendly, rambunctious dog) and will leave later this morning on a road trip to Idaho where Adam will have his annual meeting with his Committee on Ministry. On the way, they’ll do some visiting with family and camp for a few days in Yellowstone. Matt will be moving most of his belongings to Ithaca this weekend. His apartment is ready. Cornell’s orientation begins next Friday so he’ll be here for four more days of work next week, and then we’ll be back to our quiet house. I always have mixed feelings when that happens. I should be used to it by now.

Down:  To fall to the ground. What moves down in your space?

I am always picking up fallen blossoms on the patio, but I never mind since I enjoy the flowers so much.

Have a great weekend.

Double

Two of the same thing.

You won’t be seeing these flip-flops much longer. Summer is winding down. It’s been really hot here for the last week, but today there is a coolness in the air that reminds me that school (and fall) are just around the corner.

Earring

  • by

Today’s challenge at Her Space:  My Space is earring–“A little s omething to adorn the ear.” I love earrings and often buy them when we are on trips. Wearing them reminds me of the vacation. These earrings were purchased at the Ansel Adam’s gallery at Yosemite National Park eleven years ago. It was a wonderful family vacation and I still love these earrings.

Here are the last two challenges from Her Space: My Space

8-7-07  Eyes-The window to the soul

8-6-07  Bloom-A period of greatest beauty

I couldn’t decide. We have these fabulous hydrangeas this year and they make wonderful bouquets that last for days.

And about 5 years ago, Tracy asked for an “unusual” plant for Father’s Day. Sarah gave him a desert rose and it has never been as beautiful as it is this year.

Three Challenges

  • by

I’m behind already with the Her Space:  My Space challenges. I’m also trying to learn how to use Parallels/Windows XP and PSE 5.0 on my MacBook. It takes some adjusting. Photos don’t seem to save in the same format and I forgot to add the challenge words to two photos. Tried to go back and add another layer and it wouldn’t let me. No time now to read Photoshop Elements 5:  The Missing Manual so here are the last three challenges–not quite as I’d like them.
