First of all, our Team-up Thursday post. The prompt this week was Where We Live. Nancy and my interpretations couldn’t have been much different. I considered the house, the front door, the new light and house number, but finally decided on the mailbox. I liked it with the Vintage action from Pioneer Woman so settled on it. Nancy’s bright, summery photo taken on her deck is about as opposite as it could be!
During Picture Spring, one of the prompts was “The Grass at Your Feet.” I took a photo I liked a lot of tiny blue flowers, but I wanted one of the grass with dew on it like Cheri took during the class. Yesterday’s prompt from Shimelle for Love Your Photos, Love Your Pages was pretty much the same. So off I went again. I started out with my DSRL set on aperture priority mode. This is the setting I used for nearly two years, but for the last year I’ve shot in full manual almost all the time. I also wanted a shallow depth of field. Let me just say with a sunny sky, it’s a very bad combination. However I took two of the shots into PSE and used the Pioneer Woman’s Dim the Lights action on them. I ran the action twice and although these were certainly not the photos I intended to take, I find them pretty interesting.
Then I pulled out the trusty point and shoot and got what I was looking for during Picture Spring.
Today you make me want to run outside and take photos!
All of the grass shots are wonderful and you chose a great action for the top two. I’m trying to be a big brave girl and take shots in full manual but a lot of the time I revert back to P mode – I find it easier to change my white balance and my ISO and leave the rest to the camera – especially when I’m taking photos of the kids!
Gorgeous photos. I love the octagons of light in the manual ones and the gorgeous sun in the last one.
Summer time is definitely pedicure time – I just got one yesterday (just like your photo partner apparently!). I do like that her book refers to mail and how that ties in with your photo.
Rinda
it’s almost more fun when the two dip photos come from opposite perspectives! PW’s actions are so fun to play with:).
Love the grass shots…all of them…sadly our grass is mainly yellow at the moment….most unusual for the UK!!
I’ve also been shooting in Manual for the last year or so and on the whole am happier with my results but there certainly are times when I wish I could go back to Programme where it’s so much easier (but then I’m not always happy with what I get!) I love all the grass shots and the light flares in the top two.
Have a great weekend.
LOVE the streaming light in that last photo Karen! The one I got that I loved in Picture Spring was also taken with a point & shoot and can be seen as a stand-alone post here:

I see “Women Food and God” on your bookshelf – what is your take on the book? Been considering buying it…
Great pics!!! I wish I could take pics like that!! lol
Great shots Karen! I love the dewy grass, and the contrasting Where We Live pics xx
What an interesting contrast on the dip! Love your mailbox 🙂
Funny how with all the fancy schmancy cameras the shot you wanted came from your PAS! typical 😀 I do like the second bokeh shot though.
Stunning photos. I’ve been a big fan of Aperture Priority too – but I’ve found it often makes my photos to blue/cool looking.
Karen – those grass photos are absolutely stunning! It makes me want to pull out my camera immediately and get started on the prompts 🙂
