Tracy and I spent a long weekend in Chicago about seven years ago. Number 1 on our sightseeing list was to take the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise. We purchased our tickets ahead of time, but it rained as hard as I can ever remember the day of our cruise. They sail rain or shine. The tour guide was wonderful, but the tour was a bit of a disappointment in terms of getting any photographs. This year we bought our tickets the night before, and it was a perfect day, sunny and warm enough to sit on the upper deck of the boat. Our tour guide from the Architecture Foundation, Harry, was exceptional. How anyone could remember all the dates, architectural firms, and history without ever referring to a note is beyond me!
I’m sure I have enough photos to make a small mini-book, but I’ll probably just add a page of photos to the Project Life pages for last month. In the last seven years, new buildings have gone up, and if we take the tour again in another seven years, the skyline will have changed again. It’s absolutely fascinating, and if you’re ever in Chicago, don’t pass up the opportunity to take the tour.
A lovely SNAP collection of the buildings & sight lines along the river. It is amazing how any city’s skyline changes so quickly. In the year we have been traveling into Toronto for Mr Man’s eye injections, the number of condos being built has almost doubled.
Looks like perfect weather for a river cruise! Chicago is on my list of US cities that I’d like to visit (although I feel I ‘know’ it after 15 years of watching ER!).
sounds my kind of tour – river and architecture and an informed guide – fabulous captures of modern city skyline
Ooooo how interesting to go on an architecture tour! I love taking photos of buildings, especially those glass skyscrapers which reflect their surroundings and the sky! Looks like perfect weather for your tour. Glad you enjoyed it,and super collection of photos. X
YEAH! fantastic photos Karen!
So happy the 2nd time around was memorable!
Can’t wait to see your Chicago week in your PL 😉
xx
Fascinating! It doesn’t look anything like I imagine it
What a neat selection of photos, if I ever get to Chicago I’ll definitely look for the tour. The weather looks lovely too.
Sounds like a great tour with great results. I particularly like the last one.
Wow…I love your photos. I took this cruise a few years ago and it was cold, windy and rainy. The reflections in the last photo are fantastic!
So glad it was a better experience second time around – your photos really show the variety of buildings. We’re not used to things so tall here! They look great against that bright blue.
It has been too long since we’ve been to Chicago (and Norman is a native)…that river cruise is enticing – photos, superb…wheels are spinning…plans for next year, hmmm …
Cheers~
