Spring Flowers

  • by

I had a chance to play around with a new-to-me stamp, stencil, and die cut from Pinkfresh Studio, “Floral Notes.” It’s designed to fit a slimline card which is what I’ve done this time, but once I saw some card makers cut the design in two pieces to use on A2 sized cards, I knew it would be a versatile set to own. I’m pretty new to using the coloring stencils, but I’ve had good success both times. For me, they are much easier to use than layering stamps.

I used a variety of Pinkfresh inks with blending brushes to color the flowers and leaves before die cutting the floral arrangement. Then I used the smaller of the two dies in the Pinkfresh “Slimline Diagonal Stitched Rectangle” die set and stenciled just one part of a two-part stencil from Pinkfresh “Slimline Argyle” as a background.

I die cut the larger stitched piece from a piece of Lovely Lady cardstock by Papertrey Ink—one of my favorite pinks. The sentiment is from Pink and Main’s “Special Day.” This card is already in an envelope waiting to be mailed to a friend whose birthday is next week.

I’m linking this up to three challenges: The Flower Challenge: Pretty Pastels, The Paper Players where the challenge is Spring Flowers, and Time Out with a quote about April and getting out in the garden. April’s a little early in the northeast for these flowers, but the daffodils are up, and we’ve planted pansies in our front yard which has given me hope for an early spring!

  1. A very professional and truly springy card! I do like the new format for a bit of a change, as well as the cross-hatched background. That middle flower is a beautiful shade of pink!

  2. This is a gorgeous slimline card Karen. I have not made the plunge and decided which stencil set to get yet and the list is getting quite long. This one was just added. Love the background behind the beautiful flowers. Plus it’s pink and I just love pink! Never use too but sure do now! Thanks for getting inking with us at The Paper Players. Take care!

  3. Well, it looks like you’ve been having fun crafting with new stuff! Your pretty card says that spring is here! The stenciling die combinations look interesting and are on my wishlist. I have been holding off because I prefer the new mini slimline size that SSS has been promoting.

  4. Gorgeous….love your sweet and colorful flowers, so beautiful! Thank you so much for taking the time to play along with us at Time Out!

  7. What a beautiful spring flower display. The stenciled background is soft and pretty. A perfect backdrop for your flowers. Thank you for joining us at the Paper Players this week.

  8. I agree that layering stencils are a great idea (not that I have any yet!) Your card is the perfect showcase of this technique and I adore the combination of those gorgeous spring colours and the trellis-style background. Vicky x

  9. So there’s a stencil that comes with that stamp? I do layered flowers all the time but your stenciling on these pretty posies is fabulous, Karen. And yes, if you noticed Michele’s card, she did cut the swag and put the other half on the back. Thanks for sharing your card with us at The Flower Challenge.
