Sunday Creative: Timeworn

  • by

I’ve wanted to participate in the Sunday Creative challenge  ever since it started, but this is my first contribution. I’ve always liked this photo of the barbed wire, and it seemed perfect for the theme “timeworn.” It also seemed like a good candidate for playing with textures. So here are three versions. I’d like to hear which of them you like best.

Timeworn1w
No editing here except to sharpen.

TimewornNutmegw
With Kim Klassen’s new texture, “Nutmeg,” with Soft Light at 100%.

TimewornNutmeg58%w
Same texture, at 58% Soft Light.

  1. I have to admit I also prefer the unedited version – I think the barbed wire stands out more but the background is nicely blurred. Don’t know if that actually helps you at all, sorry! x

  2. Yes, I’m with those who like the first one, too – I think it’s because of the nature of the subject. I kind of expect barbed wire to look sharp and spiky … great experimenting!

  3. These are all beautiful. I think the third is my favorite b/c you get the sharpness of the barbed wire coupled with the softness of the background

  4. Hi Karen
Which photo to pick? My first choice was the 1st photo… then I kept going back to the 3rd. I am terrible at making decisions… should see me with a menu! Change my mind until the last order as been placed. ok… number 1!!
Now I have the fun of going back and reading you past blogs… catching up!
    Hugs!

  5. Well it is agreat stand alone shot Karen as everyone here agrees! Of the shots where you applied the texture, I prefer the one at 100% opacity. I always find texure very personal and at times a bit hit and miss – it really depends on the photo you use. I think you chose an appropriate texture for the photo and it has a lovely warmth and worn feeling – great job!
