Team-up Thursday: Design & Kim’s Texture Link-up

Teamup

Nancy’s been on the road, but she sent this perfect shot for this week’s Team-up Thursday, “Design,” taken at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Although I’ve been to Asheville at least four times in my life, I’ve never made it to the Biltmore, and it’s on my list of places to see. I was in Canada on Saturday and found this lovely door handle at the Meglamania Winery in the Vineland area near Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I also wanted to play along with Kim’s Tuesday Texture Link-up (just two days late!) Here’s the image SOOC, no cropping or editing.

And here’s the new photo with texture.

The challenge was to use the new “warm sun” texture, which I did. Then I used the “overlay” blending mode at 100% and decreased the saturation. I thought it needed more contrast so I used the “multiply” blending mode at 35%. I think I like the warmer, textured version, the best.

  1. I thought I was gonna have a hard time with this theme. Then I noticed the desing in everything. Great choices for your dip. Great job, team.

  2. Both are lovely, but I do like the second version better. I find the brown tones more pleasing than the blue tones. And thanks for sharing your “recipe” for the picture.

  3. I’ve always wanted to see the Biltmore too. But I missed it on my visit to Asheville, it was a holiday weekend and I’d heard it was crazy busy.
I love the depth the texture added to your photo.

  4. I don’t understand the technicalities, karen….but love what the texturising has done to the photo….it has such a warm, vintage feel to it.

  5. I am relishing every view I have made of this. I just keep coming back to it. It is wonderful. Isn’t this fun? I have an old wooden bowl like that. One of my treasures…. 😉

  6. Sigh … yes, I do love that pear – actually, I’ve been taking photos of pears this week too – in a vastly different context and setting though. I am drawn to your natural setting for your pear shot, mine was mirrored and almost surreal by comparison.

  7. I’m having problems commenting this evening for some reason so here’s one comment for all your recent posts! Congrats to Matt; I love your set of 3 giftcard holders; so thoughtful of you to make a card for Deb’s mom (and such a lovely card!); your spring green shots are gorgeous; and I love the 2nd shot of the pear, with the texture! xx
