On our way from Rochester to Chicago we stopped in Elkhart, Indiana to visit the National New York Central Railroad Museum. Tracy and his best friend have spent many hours creating a model train layout in Pete’s basement, and now Tracy has started a very small one at our house as well. There were several interesting displays, and a very large model train display, but truthfully, I was most interested in all the textures I found on the box cars as we walked through the outdoor railroad yard. I didn’t have my better camera with me, but the iPhone camera proved to be quite good. So here are two pairs of textures from the railroad museum.
I’m linking these up (a day late) to Helena’s fine meme, and off now to check out the other pairings for the week.
A great choice for pairs. I feel I want to reach out and touch them. Is that engine oil I can smell? I was brought up surrounded by trains by dad is a great steam train enthusiast. Every holiday was orientated round going looking for steam trains!
They are lovely colours as well as very touchable textures
yes fabulous textures and colours, I want to touch them too
The colours have remained quite vivid in-spite of all the wear & tear. Very interesting Pairs. My Mr Man is a model railroad fan, he has kept all his ‘stuff” from his setup as a kid in the hopes that one day he will rebuild.
Y’all have such FUN trips & do so many interesting things – we want to travel with y’all sometime! 🙂
I love the colors as well as the textures.

Aren’t these great? You bring us such interesting things :). I was just passing a paint-weathered post the other day and realising that a few years ago I might well have though ‘That needs a nice uniform coat of paint’, whereas now I’m reaching for my camera and loving every roughened and flaky surface.
Oh what fun to see those textures. There is a big railway model show near us that we’ve been to a couple of times. My Grantie had a huge (filled the attic room) set up that my Dad now has parts of, again hoping for space/time to build this.
Glad Tracy has his own set up to play with now.
So nice how the colours have stayed so vibrant! I’m from a railroad (real not model) family so these really touched me.
great pairs…I lovely old rusty textures like this
