The Cats of Istanbul

  • by

We’ve come to the last of the Istanbul posts. I had read that cats roam freely around Istanbul, and it’s the truth. They are everywhere, and seem to be fed by locals as well as tourists who leave food and water where cats can find it. Most of them appear healthy and well-fed, although I believe most of them are homeless in the sense that no one properly owns them.

  1. Oh how lovely, they all look clean and well cared for especially that little cushion cover cat. I have a very big soft spot for cats…

  2. These are great pictures, Karen! I was a little surprised to see a whole post dedicated to cats on your blog…not sure if you are a fan or not. And, even though I’m a cat lover, I think I’d be a little…uh…I don’t know…uncomfortable with a whole bunch of cats running around. ??? I wonder what they do (if anything) to keep the cat population from exploding.

  3. They certainly look to be healthy specimens and you have captured part of the personality of the region in which you travelled which makes for fantastic holiday photos.

  4. The one in the bazaar looks still a kitten … Beautifully photographed. I think you need to go back with your camera, Karen – there is a book in there somewhere!

  5. I agree with Alexa. This would be a very cool book.
    Thanks for showing an
unusual and interesting aspect of Istanbul

  6. Thank you for this beautiful post. Being a cat lover – the images are just so elegant. All Short hair – not sure why I expected anything else.
