Before we left for Oregon, I pulled out an Amy Tangerine Sketchbook to use as a travel journal. I decorated the cover, but didn’t do much else since the pages are already designed for you to some extent. One thing I’ve learned after two attempts to scrap as I travel: I don’t. It helps to have it ready when I get home, but there’s no point in taking it with me.
I found the sketchbook a bit difficult to work with. Some of the pages are so small, and I wasn’t sure what to do about the photographs. Then I found a digital template by Jennifer Wilson that had 12 Polaroid-type frames. They worked perfectly. I also found I had to work both from the front and from the back to be sure I had everything laid out in chronological order. Editing and printing the photos took the better part of my creative time on Day 7. I don’t think the photos need much explanation so here’s a photo-heavy post of most of the project.
This is the front cover, and the inside of the back cover. I made a pocket to hold the postcards I purchased.
In the end, I was pleased with the project. I have another slightly larger sketchbook of the same design which I will use, but I probably wouldn’t purchase another one.
You made me laugh a little, I never put a project together while away either! I can take a lot of photos and, if I am being especially good, I will journal each day. But, I have not done that for a few years now – I’ve been lazy and rely on memory.
Well that makes three of us – I never get anything done while I’m away either. However, I rarely get round to doing it when I get back either!
I see what you mean about how small some of the pages are. You have some lovely photos there.
What a fun travel journal – the smaller photos worked perfect & you were able to include lots of photos & journaling.
That photo template worked great! All I ever do in my travel journals while on the road is jot down what we did that day and put memorabilia into envelopes. I glue in pictures and things later. Love how yours turned out.

I have one of these sitting on my desk and I have found it much harder to get started on than I had expected, so I ahve been poring over your pictures, taking in the details and admiring your photo template choice. It’s simply lovely!
Oh how cool! I totally love what you did with the sketchbook! It looks awesome! I must try that one day!
Hi Karen ~ Oh how I miss being able to visit your blog more regularly! I’ve just had a nice little catch up and I had to leave a comment on this post because I just LOVE the way your travel journal turned out. I can see how that design would be a bit tricky, but you worked it out beautifully. I know what you mean about scrapping while traveling! I always have the best intentions, but never get it done while on the trip.
What a great scrapbook! It looks just like Ali Edwards made it! 🙂
